Pump it!

6 Jun

Don’t be afraid, it’s gonna take a bit of work, determination maybe be a bit painful but …I’ll master the pump race or skateboard supercross …

But what is this pump thing?

The track is made of bumps connected to sharp turns where the gravity is supposed to stick you to the inside the curb of the track. It sounds scary but it’s not if you are a bit patient and listen to your instructor.

No pushing required just stand on the board, put your both feet on the board and let the gravity and your balance do the rest
I picked my “short” Biscuit board by Hamboards, changed the washers and bushings, tightened the trucks. I also brought with me my trusty watermelon helmet (S1 helmet) and wrist protections

Let’s say I was ready!
To complete my outfit, I was provided with supercool soft elbow and knee pads (by G-form).
Then with a lot of sweat, clutching at the hand of my instructor Sarah and some minor falls, it took me one lesson on the small track to follow the bumps and almost look like confident on my board. I’m excited to go back for my second lesson!!!

It’s quite a totally different sport than riding my board on the boardwalk. Both activities are cool and complement each other.

I’m a land surfer now and on the way to become a concrete waves surfer!!!

Hour2, gave me more confidence on the track, I almost worked out ok the curb.

Hour3, I’m ok with the bumps and curb, toe side.

Hour4, gaining a bit of speed and it’s ok on the curbs, starting to practice heel side.

PS:

  • Grand opening of the race track on June 12th, Amelia Earheart Park, Hileah (401 E 65th St, Hialeah, FL 33013near the bike trails)
  • Kids and grown ups welcomed.
  • All wheels accepted! Bikes, scooters, inline skaters and of course skateboards.

It’s a cube, it’s a robot? It’s a Cubebot!

11 May

Remember the Rubik’s cube? It was really cool, twisting and turning the faces kept you busy for hours …
The guys from Areaware invented their “Rubik’s cube” but this time is a robot in wood or let’s say it’s a cube that can transform itself as a robot … You think it’s easy? It’s NOT but it’s great fun for everyone from small kids (3+) to grownups!

The fun is to make figures and also try to form the cube shape you discovered when you opened the box.

I like it, it looks cool and put a little bit of design and colours on my messy desk … Need to clean it …

There are 4 sizes to chose from

  • mini, 6.75×9.35″(unfolded), $9,
  •  small, 6.75″ tall with 9.25″ arm span, $18
  • medium, 9.5 inches tall with 13.55 inch arm span, $28
  • and extra large, $250

and plenty of colors

  • white,
  • wood,
  • black,
  • yellow,
  • green,
  • orange,

My Xmas list 2015!

7 Dec

Xmas is around the corner and better be ready when the guy in red jump down the chimney …Here’s my list and links, mom you know the drill now …

1. I already have a Biscuit and a Huntington Hop but I think I’m missing the Logger by Hamboards ($299), what do you think?

2. I need a bag that won’t move while skateboarding and running, the Base-910 (from $94.99-$104.99) by Equilibrium ticks the boxes with its comfortable fit tailored to hug my body and distribute the weight evenly while land surfing. Also, I can customize it thanks to accessories pouches and this comes handy.

3. I would like to upgrade my tennis game and compare my forehands, backhands, serves, smashes, volleys and spin to the ones of Rafael Nadal, Timea Bacsinszky, Benoit Paire, Sam Querrey … Easy with the new Babolat Pop, the first connected tennis wristband by Babolat. I can, of course, challenge my friends too. Price: $90

4. What about a steadycam for my iPhone 6? I want to “go Spielberg” while shooting my webtv episodes of Chase It, the Show! The Smoothee Universal mount (by wellknown brand Tiffen) is calling my name for only $149,95!

5. To walk (and land surf) the world, I would fancy the limited edition sneakers by Vans which teamed up with The North Face to make the best shoes for for cold and wet weather. No need anymore for the ugly big boots to tackle the winter days! Gusseted tongues, reversed waffle lug out-soles, heat retention, extra grip, water-repellent leather and suede uppers are on the menu to make it the ultimate winter shoes! Available at selected shops around the world. Prices for the MTE range spread from $90 to $130. The #VansxTheNorthFace are hard to get, check on Vans official website.

6. I dreamed about Jiro and his sushis for many years now. Friends of mine told me that he opened a restaurant in NYC. After a little bit of browsing the web I found the restaurant Sushi Nakazawa operated by Dayisuke Nakazawa (apprentice at Jiro’s restaurant in Tokyo). It seems to be the closest to Jiro’s experience and I want in! Degustation menus and sake … About $500 for two.

7. I don’t like the sound of my keys digging in the pocket of my pants, that’s why I need a Key-Bar. I’ll take the titanium bars and stars ($80) with the following options toothpick & tweezer set ($15), key ravines 2.0 ($10).

8. I love jerky (it’s lean, full of protein and omega-3) and I’m into DIY these day, so I think I would like to start making my own jerky. Fleisher proposes a kit “the Fleishers Jerky Crafting kit” with everything but the meat for $29,99. Time to grill!!

9. I’m always running around and I always need to charge my phone … the best of both worls is called Ampy. Ampy is an external battery which charges itself with kinetic energy. Basically, the more you move the more the battery charges itself!! Price: $99

Happy holidays to you all!!

Reflection in my socks?

4 Feb

HeiselDo you ever walk at night dressed in dark colours?
Have you ever jogged at the crack of dawn anxious to be seen by the cars during your jogg?
Do you ever walk with your doggie in a pitch black street in the middle of the winter?
All those questions have the same answers: safety and fashion first! And you know what? Heisel got the answer!Heisel

It all started with Sylvia Heisel.
Sylvia is a pioneer and veteran in fashion, not any fashion but smart fashion using innovative and smart material.
The lines of clothes designed by Sylvia combine advanced technology materials and manufacturing techniques.
Creativity, technology, sustainability and style are leading the way!

So let’s follow her footsteps and discover Heisel line
From T-shirts to hoodies, pants and parka, Heisel also creates suome great and accessible accessories that will bring safety and comfort to our life (saving you from the ugly yellow safety jacket).

I was attracted by the polka dots reflecting tennis socks ($16) and the reflecting beanie ($36).
Those accessories are great while running, biking or just walking and will attract the attention of the cars when the sun goes down.
The beanie is great for winter to keep your ears warm and you will stand out at night … safety is not a game!Heisel

PS: Heisel clothes and accessories are also a stunner while moving your body on the dance floor!!
If you are into D.I.Y., check the reflective threads ready to be knitted, sewn, glue to your clothes to create your very own reflective outfit.
