AirPods in my ears … part2

24 May

Let’s go further with those AirPods!!

Hey Siri! If your iPhone or iPad is hooked on a plug or portable battery, just say “Hey Siri” to start the conversation.

Find my AirPods! Use the well known, “Find my phone” app on iPhone/iPad or hop on the internet on a computer and type iCloud.com to log in.

All your apple devices will appear on a map.

You’ll be able to make noise on your AirPods to find your buds.

Beware, it only works if the AirPods are NOT in the case … if you lose the charging case, you’ll be up for a $69 replacing case.

AirPods and Apple Watch are bff. The Apple Watch is very handy to skip, turn the volume up and down.

Or you tell Siri “volume up”, “skip song”, “volume down”, “pause music”, “play music”.

Who is calling? The phone calls are announced in my AirPods … handy.

Go to settings/phone/announce calls and explore the options.

After a few weeks, I really love my AirPods and I wouldn’t trade them for another headset because

  • they are light and don’t fall from my ears,
  • the sound is great and everyone hears me clearer than with my other headsets,
  • the autonomy is good even for heavy users like me thanks to its charging case,

A great buy for sure!!

But still there’s a huge downside. What do I do with this AirPods charging case? How not to lose it?

I first tried to tight it with a Betterband and a carabiner from Niteize. Looks a little bit too much DIY …

Then, I browse the web and found lots of silicone skins for the charging case … cute and protective for the case but it was just a skin … what about my losing issue, dust, water and fall protection … some more browsing and I found the Catalyst case!

Click to order and pay. The Catalyst case is on the way … it was just delivered and carrying now my AirPods all over without the stress of losing the case.

  • Waterproof? Yes up to 3.3.ft/1m,
  • Scratch proof ? Yes, 360degrees protection,
  • Drop proof? Yes up to 4ft/1,2m

Cherry on the cake, the cover glows in the dark! Love it.

Good to know, I still can reach the pairing button through the thin silicon wrap around the AirPods case.

To get my buds when I’m not on the move I just pull both side down and leave it like that … it’s my standby mode.
I didn’t like the provided carabiner and I switched for the Slidelock from Niteize (the gates are closed independently thanks to the plastic sliders). Now I’m almost sure I won’t lose it.

AirPods in my ears

26 Apr

They just landed! And it was a long way … 5 weeks … 5 weeks to fly from Shanghai to Sennan to Memphis then Fort Lauderdale and now Miami!
So was it worth the wait?

I’ve been testing them for the past few days and … you’ll see.

The pairing
… can’t be easier just open the little white box and let the magic work … boom you are connected.
Put the AirPods in your ears and here you go … music, phone calls, Siri

The music
, seamless the music starts when the AirPods are in your ears.

Take one pod out and the music stops.
Put it back in your ear and the music starts again.

Wants to set the volume, skip a song, switch the playlist?
Then you’ll have to go through your phone or your Apple Watch. You can use Siri, I gave it a chance and its working ok … but you can deactivated Siri and replaced it with play/stop when you double tap the AirPod while in your ear. (Go to settings/general/Bluetooth and tap the i next to your AirPods).

The talking
, because a phone is also about talking … people hear me clearer than with my previous Bluetooth headset.

Why?
I guess its because each AirPod has 2 mics one at the top for noise cancellation and one at the bottom for the voice recognition.
Clever and that works.

The autonomy
.
It’s a big problem for me as I may have 2 hours long conference calls as well as I’m listening to music while I’m working or skateboarding.

Autonomy is key!

The AirPods are supposed to a 5 hours autonomy on a single battery charge.
Cool, but not enough for a full work day.

The trick comes with the charging case which gives up to 24 hours extra battery life.

Also another trick to stay on top of your autonomy is to use one AirPod then put the other AirPod back in its charging case … you’ll double the autonomy.  Be aware that when one AirPod is charging in its case, the other one in your ear plays music and calls in stereo. Neat.

Good to know, 15′ in the charging case give a 3 hours boost of battery life.

Any regrets?

NO! I love it, it’s paired with my iPad and iPhone 6 and it works perfectly!!

The only downside is the size
It’s small, small pods and small charging case … easy to lose … I guess I’ll have to be careful. I safely store the charging case in my watch pocket.
F.Y.I. you can replace the lost charging case for $69

My Xmas list 2015!

7 Dec

Xmas is around the corner and better be ready when the guy in red jump down the chimney …Here’s my list and links, mom you know the drill now …

1. I already have a Biscuit and a Huntington Hop but I think I’m missing the Logger by Hamboards ($299), what do you think?

2. I need a bag that won’t move while skateboarding and running, the Base-910 (from $94.99-$104.99) by Equilibrium ticks the boxes with its comfortable fit tailored to hug my body and distribute the weight evenly while land surfing. Also, I can customize it thanks to accessories pouches and this comes handy.

3. I would like to upgrade my tennis game and compare my forehands, backhands, serves, smashes, volleys and spin to the ones of Rafael Nadal, Timea Bacsinszky, Benoit Paire, Sam Querrey … Easy with the new Babolat Pop, the first connected tennis wristband by Babolat. I can, of course, challenge my friends too. Price: $90

4. What about a steadycam for my iPhone 6? I want to “go Spielberg” while shooting my webtv episodes of Chase It, the Show! The Smoothee Universal mount (by wellknown brand Tiffen) is calling my name for only $149,95!

5. To walk (and land surf) the world, I would fancy the limited edition sneakers by Vans which teamed up with The North Face to make the best shoes for for cold and wet weather. No need anymore for the ugly big boots to tackle the winter days! Gusseted tongues, reversed waffle lug out-soles, heat retention, extra grip, water-repellent leather and suede uppers are on the menu to make it the ultimate winter shoes! Available at selected shops around the world. Prices for the MTE range spread from $90 to $130. The #VansxTheNorthFace are hard to get, check on Vans official website.

6. I dreamed about Jiro and his sushis for many years now. Friends of mine told me that he opened a restaurant in NYC. After a little bit of browsing the web I found the restaurant Sushi Nakazawa operated by Dayisuke Nakazawa (apprentice at Jiro’s restaurant in Tokyo). It seems to be the closest to Jiro’s experience and I want in! Degustation menus and sake … About $500 for two.

7. I don’t like the sound of my keys digging in the pocket of my pants, that’s why I need a Key-Bar. I’ll take the titanium bars and stars ($80) with the following options toothpick & tweezer set ($15), key ravines 2.0 ($10).

8. I love jerky (it’s lean, full of protein and omega-3) and I’m into DIY these day, so I think I would like to start making my own jerky. Fleisher proposes a kit “the Fleishers Jerky Crafting kit” with everything but the meat for $29,99. Time to grill!!

9. I’m always running around and I always need to charge my phone … the best of both worls is called Ampy. Ampy is an external battery which charges itself with kinetic energy. Basically, the more you move the more the battery charges itself!! Price: $99

Happy holidays to you all!!

Not enough storage on your smartphone?

4 Aug

leef iBridge, mobile memory for iphone/iPadI remember I was taking pictures and at one time my iPhone tells me “can’t take this picture, don’t have any storage left” …
What? In the middle of a tennis match? What do I do? I need those pictures!
So, I frantically started to erase pictures, apps, documents and started shooting again …
Then again I was out of storage … A nightmare … I’m sure, I’m not the only one this happened to.

Now, there’s a solution and it comes from the company iBridge with their “mobile memory” called the “leef“.

The leef iBridge looks like a USB key, it’s just a look …
One side of the leef iBridge is the USB connector, the other extremity is the Lightning connector.
How does it work? Easiest can’t be!

Plug the leef iBridge in your iPhone as if you wanted to charge it.
The iPhone detects your leef iBridge  accessory and proposes you to get the free app that goes with it.

Let’s go to the AppStore to download the free app.
When the app is installed and launched, you’ll have 3 choices
1. Transfer files (word, PowerPoint, excel, … Mac and PC versions of course
2. Content viewer (movies, music, pictures and documents)
3. iBridge camera

This leef iBridge is way cool and will solve many storage issues.
The leef exists in 16Gb ($59.99/59€90), 32Gb ($79.99/89€90), 64 Gb ($119.99/129€90), 128Gb ($199.99/229€90), 256GB (out of stock) and you know what? You can even take photos and capture videos straight on the leef iBridge!
How cool is that?

I use it for the office to store documents I need with me all the time (like powerpoint presentations, pdf, pictures, …) because I don’t want to download them … they are too heavy for my data subscription … I will also use it to record videos for my webTV show!
My friend uses it to store his music, as a media center.
So now, it’s your turn to find your usage!

PS:
This cool and necessary accessory works with iPhones 5/5S/5C, 6/6plus, iPad starting 4th generation and iPod Touch 5th generation.

  • leef iBridge, mobile memory for iphone/iPadCherry on the cake, you can even charge your iPhone while using the leef iBridge! The guys at iBridge thought about everything!
  • Plug the USB side of the leef iBridge in your computer and upload or download content
  • The only downside I could find is that the cable to charge my iPhone/iPad while my leef iBridge is on… was not in the box with the leef iBridge and I had to go back to the shop (call me lazy) to buy the leef ChargeThru for an extra $9,99

Did you ever fight for the remote?

23 Mar

of course, the battle takes places at home everyday but … Also when you stay in hotels …

Playing with the remote at the Conrad, Miami, I incidentally hit a page saying “Do you want to connect and use your phone as a remote control?” Yes, I do!

I downloaded the free app “stayConnect” and add the code you see on the screen … Less than 30 secs later I was the master of the TV from my phone. love it!

Brighten my day … And my pictures

5 Mar

Photo 4-03-2015 8 45 33 pmDid you know that you can adjust the light WHILE taking a picture on your iPhone ?

Yes, you can and I didn’t know it.
My good friend @mamadougsakho tipped me off yesterday and I want to share it with you because it’s really useful.
Go to the camera mode
. When the iPhone is idle, touch the home button and lift the camera icon from the bottom right to the top to reveal the camera mode
. Or walk your way through you iPhone to switch the camera on
In the camera mode, aim at your subject and
. Focus on the subject, by tapping the subject, a yellow square will appear and the subject will be sharper
. Optimize the light (brighter or darker), aim at the subject and tap it, leave you finger on it and see a little sun appearing. Then slide up and down to brighten or to darken the picture

Passbook anyone?

6 Oct

PassbookYes, you know what it is … it’s one of the app pre-installed on your iPhone. I event tried to erase it because I didn’t see its use but I couldn’t do it because it’s part of the Apple apps.
Lately, I’ve been traveling with Air France  (when they don’t strike …) and I checked in with the Air France app that’s how I discovered accidentally the use of Passbook.

Passbook Enjoy your flight with Passbook My e-ticket

Basically, Passbook gathers all your tickets (not only boarding passes but also you receipts, loyalty cards, coupons, …).

You can add your tickets to Passbook from
. emails,
. apps (check the list of apps working with Passbook)
. or by scanning the bare code.

Why can this be useful?
First of all,All my tix at the same location
. all your tickets are gathered at the same place (saving you time when you look for it in your phone and can’t find them and the crowd behind you is growing angry).
. the D-day, your ticket pops on your locked screen for you to show in only one little swipe to the smiling hostess or steward!
With Passbook, you’ll also keep a track of your purchases, tickets, coupons.

Definitively worth a try!

PS: Depending on your country of origin (the nationality of your bankcard recorded in iTunes, you’ll be proposed different list of companies that are collaborating with Apple).
