Let’s keep the ball rolling …

2 Jul

I just discovered the protein balls. The ones I tried were homemade, with almonds, cranberries, oat and dates.

It was so good that I started to look at recipes to make my very own easy-to-make protein balls.

I gather the ingredients and on a rainy Sunday, I started mixing and rolling.

Ingredients and proportions

How to do it?

  1. Pour the oat, chia seeds, peanut butter and honey in a bowl and mix
  2. Keep mixing
  3. Leave in the fridge during 20′, they are less sticky to roll
  4. Then add the cacao nibs, almonds and dried mango
  5. Start rolling
  6. Store in the freeze for up to 7 days (if you didn’t eat them all the same day)

I eat them as a snack, with with chia pudding, as a desert … it’s sooo goood.

chia pudding on the left and granola on the rightI love trail mix. It’s an easy way to eat healthy food as a snack.
Recently I discovered the granola and its a revelation.
I though granola was not for me because the oat (it didn’t look good to me, not sweet enough for me … Whatever).
Then, my best friend in Melbourne introduced me to the 1111Granola. I though this could be the new best friend of my breakfast and go along like horse and carriage with my chia pudding.
The 1111Granola is made home made with love by the owner Rob Rabba.

my bff for the breakfast Mango and granola soy cherry yaourt topped with chia seeds and granola

2 varieties are available so far Macadamia & Cranberries as well as Puffed Quinoa & Macadamia.
I’m a fan of the Macadamia & Cranberries, a mixture of macadamia nuts, almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. Blended carefully with dried dates, cranberries and apricots. Our gourmet mix is coated with natural honey and spiced with cinnamon.
The Puffed Quinoa & Macadamia is Gluten Free with puffed quinoa, rice puffs and rice flakes, mixed with macadamia nuts, hazelnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, blended with dried dates, cranberries and apricots. It’s is coated with natural honey and spiced with Cinnamon.

Did you know that granola is NOT muesli, granola is baked until crisp and sweetened unlike muesli! So now, we know the difference.

The breakfast of champions!!

Chia PodRecently I discovered the chia seeds at the US Open in New York City where an Australian company was giving away for free chia desserts during the 2 weeks of the tournament (thank you ChiaCorp!).
There were many flavors and I tried them all (banana, vanilla, strawberry,…).
Its consistence was weird (kind of slimy) at first and not very sweet (which I liked, my friend missed the sugar).
I loved it and became a regular at the Chia Corp booth.
I wanted to know more about this little black seed.
Digging a bit, I discovered that the Chia Pod were gluten free (quite fancy right now), dairy free and vegan.
Digging a bit further, I learned that it was a seed that the Aztecs used to eat often for it’s long lasting energy it provides.
So what composes the seed to qualify it of the label “superfood“?
The chia is a great source of
. omega-3 fatty acids,
. high quality proteins,
. natural antioxidants
. and dietetic fibre (good for a healthy digestive system),
. as well as Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids.

The chia seeds have the property to absorb liquids and grow to become a slimy texture stuffed with liquids.

Back home in France, I didn’t find the Chia pods so I decided to buy the seeds and to make my very own chia pudding!

The recipe is super super easy, even for me.

Soy milk, chia seeds and that's it!

add the milk and stir

add the milk and stir

. Drown one portion of chia seeds with 4 portions of liquid (I use almond milk or nut milk, my brother coconut water)
. and go watch an episode of House Hunters international,
. after 20 minutes, stir,Chia seeds
. watch another episode and 20 minutes later stir again,
. Let it rest for the night in the fridge and voila!

The Next morning, you got yourself your breakfast ready to eat!
I add honey, some nuts, kinako powder or cranberries but plain is great too!

It fills me easily until the next meal, and you have usually left overs for the next couple of days.
I even take it at the office when I don’t have the time to eat a proper lunch (as you know I’m not into sandwiches).
