Pump it!

6 Jun

Don’t be afraid, it’s gonna take a bit of work, determination maybe be a bit painful but …I’ll master the pump race or skateboard supercross …

But what is this pump thing?

The track is made of bumps connected to sharp turns where the gravity is supposed to stick you to the inside the curb of the track. It sounds scary but it’s not if you are a bit patient and listen to your instructor.

No pushing required just stand on the board, put your both feet on the board and let the gravity and your balance do the rest
I picked my “short” Biscuit board by Hamboards, changed the washers and bushings, tightened the trucks. I also brought with me my trusty watermelon helmet (S1 helmet) and wrist protections

Let’s say I was ready!
To complete my outfit, I was provided with supercool soft elbow and knee pads (by G-form).
Then with a lot of sweat, clutching at the hand of my instructor Sarah and some minor falls, it took me one lesson on the small track to follow the bumps and almost look like confident on my board. I’m excited to go back for my second lesson!!!

It’s quite a totally different sport than riding my board on the boardwalk. Both activities are cool and complement each other.

I’m a land surfer now and on the way to become a concrete waves surfer!!!

Hour2, gave me more confidence on the track, I almost worked out ok the curb.

Hour3, I’m ok with the bumps and curb, toe side.

Hour4, gaining a bit of speed and it’s ok on the curbs, starting to practice heel side.

PS:

  • Grand opening of the race track on June 12th, Amelia Earheart Park, Hileah (401 E 65th St, Hialeah, FL 33013near the bike trails)
  • Kids and grown ups welcomed.
  • All wheels accepted! Bikes, scooters, inline skaters and of course skateboards.

When we are babies, we crawl then we stumble and rise to finally walk and run. That’s when we want to go faster and discover the tricycle and the bike …
With Y-volution, my little nephews discovered a whole new world.

Photo 14-03-2014 11 01 29 amLittleB, 5 years old boy, chose the Fliker B3 , littleE, 3 years and half girl, the Fliker B1 and I went for the Fliker C3.Yvolution
The Yvolution upgraded the regular one slate scooter to a v-shape 2 slates scooter with a hand break.
The front wheel works the same as a regular scooter but the 2 back wheels are “loose” and allow you “to fool around”.

The Fliker is great on flat and downhill, uphill will be more challenging physically.

Unfold the scooter, and screw the 2 big green buttons and here you go! You are ready!

Easy but heavy transport

Easy to transport, a bit heavy though

Unfold the scooter

Turn the screw to fasten

Turn both green screws to fasten

To start, just kick as with your regular scooter than shake your bootie (move your hip from one side to the other) to experience the speed, carve and slide. Take a bit of speed and here goes the 360 turn, lean on the handlebars and here goes the skidding!!! All in full safety with the handbreak!
With a bit of practice and sweat, you’ll master the beast.
The Fliker is great to do workout and works evenly on both legs (instead of the regular scooter), you’ll challenge you thighs, hips and abs and this is good. Great workout while having fun.
