Tired fingers vs iPhone?

10 Jul

Fingers recognition or password?

Sometimes the iPhone finger recognition plays tricks on you. Then you have to type in your 6 figures password instead of 4 before last update … boring …

I preferred when it was a 4-figures password.
There’s an easy manipulation to revert the 6-digits password to 4!

Follow those easy steps

AirPods in my ears … part2

24 May

Let’s go further with those AirPods!!

Hey Siri! If your iPhone or iPad is hooked on a plug or portable battery, just say “Hey Siri” to start the conversation.

Find my AirPods! Use the well known, “Find my phone” app on iPhone/iPad or hop on the internet on a computer and type iCloud.com to log in.

All your apple devices will appear on a map.

You’ll be able to make noise on your AirPods to find your buds.

Beware, it only works if the AirPods are NOT in the case … if you lose the charging case, you’ll be up for a $69 replacing case.

AirPods and Apple Watch are bff. The Apple Watch is very handy to skip, turn the volume up and down.

Or you tell Siri “volume up”, “skip song”, “volume down”, “pause music”, “play music”.

Who is calling? The phone calls are announced in my AirPods … handy.

Go to settings/phone/announce calls and explore the options.

After a few weeks, I really love my AirPods and I wouldn’t trade them for another headset because

  • they are light and don’t fall from my ears,
  • the sound is great and everyone hears me clearer than with my other headsets,
  • the autonomy is good even for heavy users like me thanks to its charging case,

A great buy for sure!!

But still there’s a huge downside. What do I do with this AirPods charging case? How not to lose it?

I first tried to tight it with a Betterband and a carabiner from Niteize. Looks a little bit too much DIY …

Then, I browse the web and found lots of silicone skins for the charging case … cute and protective for the case but it was just a skin … what about my losing issue, dust, water and fall protection … some more browsing and I found the Catalyst case!

Click to order and pay. The Catalyst case is on the way … it was just delivered and carrying now my AirPods all over without the stress of losing the case.

  • Waterproof? Yes up to 3.3.ft/1m,
  • Scratch proof ? Yes, 360degrees protection,
  • Drop proof? Yes up to 4ft/1,2m

Cherry on the cake, the cover glows in the dark! Love it.

Good to know, I still can reach the pairing button through the thin silicon wrap around the AirPods case.

To get my buds when I’m not on the move I just pull both side down and leave it like that … it’s my standby mode.
I didn’t like the provided carabiner and I switched for the Slidelock from Niteize (the gates are closed independently thanks to the plastic sliders). Now I’m almost sure I won’t lose it.

AirPods in my ears

26 Apr

They just landed! And it was a long way … 5 weeks … 5 weeks to fly from Shanghai to Sennan to Memphis then Fort Lauderdale and now Miami!
So was it worth the wait?

I’ve been testing them for the past few days and … you’ll see.

The pairing
… can’t be easier just open the little white box and let the magic work … boom you are connected.
Put the AirPods in your ears and here you go … music, phone calls, Siri

The music
, seamless the music starts when the AirPods are in your ears.

Take one pod out and the music stops.
Put it back in your ear and the music starts again.

Wants to set the volume, skip a song, switch the playlist?
Then you’ll have to go through your phone or your Apple Watch. You can use Siri, I gave it a chance and its working ok … but you can deactivated Siri and replaced it with play/stop when you double tap the AirPod while in your ear. (Go to settings/general/Bluetooth and tap the i next to your AirPods).

The talking
, because a phone is also about talking … people hear me clearer than with my previous Bluetooth headset.

Why?
I guess its because each AirPod has 2 mics one at the top for noise cancellation and one at the bottom for the voice recognition.
Clever and that works.

The autonomy
.
It’s a big problem for me as I may have 2 hours long conference calls as well as I’m listening to music while I’m working or skateboarding.

Autonomy is key!

The AirPods are supposed to a 5 hours autonomy on a single battery charge.
Cool, but not enough for a full work day.

The trick comes with the charging case which gives up to 24 hours extra battery life.

Also another trick to stay on top of your autonomy is to use one AirPod then put the other AirPod back in its charging case … you’ll double the autonomy.  Be aware that when one AirPod is charging in its case, the other one in your ear plays music and calls in stereo. Neat.

Good to know, 15′ in the charging case give a 3 hours boost of battery life.

Any regrets?

NO! I love it, it’s paired with my iPad and iPhone 6 and it works perfectly!!

The only downside is the size
It’s small, small pods and small charging case … easy to lose … I guess I’ll have to be careful. I safely store the charging case in my watch pocket.
F.Y.I. you can replace the lost charging case for $69

More to come about the AirPods with AirPods in my ears, part2.

My music? iMusic?

8 Jul

I have an iPhone, only 32Gb meaning that with all my pictures and apps, I can only have a playlist of 20 songs … Always the same songs … boring …
I would like to listen to the radio but you need the signal in the metro and definitively a great plan to allow you unlimited data (I’m limited to 2Gb a month).

With iMusic, I think I see the end of my misery …
iMusic is the new streaming music platform launched by Apple some days ago.

The big idea is to allow us access to any music for a monthly flat fee (individual fee $9,99, family pack for up to 6 members $14,99 a month).

The service is basically a giant library of all the music available at a tap of your finger.
How does it work?

  • First, upgrade your iOS to iOS8.4
  • Then head to iTunes and tap free test iMusic (the test will last 3 months and be automatically paid by month if you don’t untick the option “automatic renewal”)
  • I unticked and will decide on October 2nd if I continue to use the service (I think I will, because it’s way cool)

Ok, the 3 months free trial is on, so what can I do?

First you can customize your music preferences by tapping the artists you like. This will enable iMusic to suggest you new music to discover that will fit your preferences (nice).
Now, let’s check it out.

Let’s launch the iMusic app.

On the customized homepage, I have access to

  • playlists,
  • albums,
  • radios,
  • I can also search iMusic for the latest albums releases
  • all the above are supposed to match my music preferences (and they do)

I like to listen to the radios while wifi-connected at the office or home, but the killer-use for me is the off-line listening of playlists and albums I download before taking the metro. I do that 2 times a day and I really enjoy the variety of the programmation and I even discover groups and albums I didn’t want to buy because I didn’t know if I would like it.

Testing the service for the past few days, I must admit I dig iMusic big time!

  • The morning, I “make available offline” a playlist or an album and off I go take my metro.
  • At the office, I listen to playlists and radios (streaming).

I dig the service because

  • I don’t need to own CD or records
  • I don’t have the room to store CDs home
  • I don’t want to digitalize my CDs and store them in my iPhone (not enough storage room)

PS: This service is plain, simple and offer you all the music of the world at your fingertips … but I’m a little bit concerned about the music industry (already quite weak since the rise of internet).
I’m sure Taylor Swift, Pharrel Williams, … are on the safe side but all the other tniy little artists who are worth discovering … will they have access to iMusic, will the remenuration be high enough to keep them creating or send them back to 9 to 5 desk jobs ?

Brighten my day … And my pictures

5 Mar

Photo 4-03-2015 8 45 33 pmDid you know that you can adjust the light WHILE taking a picture on your iPhone ?

Yes, you can and I didn’t know it.
My good friend @mamadougsakho tipped me off yesterday and I want to share it with you because it’s really useful.
Go to the camera mode
. When the iPhone is idle, touch the home button and lift the camera icon from the bottom right to the top to reveal the camera mode
. Or walk your way through you iPhone to switch the camera on
In the camera mode, aim at your subject and
. Focus on the subject, by tapping the subject, a yellow square will appear and the subject will be sharper
. Optimize the light (brighter or darker), aim at the subject and tap it, leave you finger on it and see a little sun appearing. Then slide up and down to brighten or to darken the picture

Sent by my iPhone? What about your e-mail signature?

17 Mar

imageWhat’s your signature ?
When you send a mail with a smartphone, you have an automatic not-always-wanted signature at the bottom of your mail.
For the iPhone, it simply says “sent by my iPhone” but I’m sure that, like me, you would like to customise it!

Let’s do this in 3 clicks on your iPhone!
. ClickOne, Go to “Settings
. ClickTwo, select “Mails/Contacts/Calendars”
. Then scroll down to ClickThree “Signature
You can have one signature for all your email accounts or one for each account.
I decided to customise my signature for each account (one professional and one personal).

imageNow, it’s your turn 😉 but here is the tip: type your data, don’t copy/paste your signature from a mail or doc because then when you type your messages, the automatic warp won’t work and you will be written “outside” your screen and it’s a pain …

Panoramic pictures ?

14 Apr

Photo 11-04-13 1 09 59 PMOf course you know that you can take panoramic pictures with your iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.

(For those you don’t, just act like you know and do the following, tap the photo app and “Options“, then “Panorama“).

But did you know you could switch from “left to right” to “right to left pictures” ? How ? By simply tapping on the arrow.
