E-vault

30 May

I’m always looking for my papers: monthly pay slip, car insurance, electricity bill, … You never find it when you need it!

I still continue to sort them and store them in my blue file but it’s a pain to look for a specific document … maybe i’m a bit lazy.

my blue file

I found the trick, I scan the docs … not with my printer (too far) but with a super cool app on my iPhone! Then, I store it on my dropbox. So I always everything reachable in a split second, love it.

Here’s how to

1/ download the app Scanner For Me on the iTunes store, launch the app

2/ put the document on a different background colour than the document you want to scan

3/ hold the device still until a blue square captures the document

Then save it to the camera roll, send it by mail (if you scan more than one doc, it will build a pdf file instead of 3 pictures) or store it in the iCloud.

4/ little tip: smart-rename your files, or it will be a mess … Like in the blue folder in my closet …

It’s a cube, it’s a robot? It’s a Cubebot!

11 May

Remember the Rubik’s cube? It was really cool, twisting and turning the faces kept you busy for hours …
The guys from Areaware invented their “Rubik’s cube” but this time is a robot in wood or let’s say it’s a cube that can transform itself as a robot … You think it’s easy? It’s NOT but it’s great fun for everyone from small kids (3+) to grownups!

The fun is to make figures and also try to form the cube shape you discovered when you opened the box.

I like it, it looks cool and put a little bit of design and colours on my messy desk … Need to clean it …

There are 4 sizes to chose from

  •  small, 6.75″ tall with 9.25″ arm span, $18

  • and extra large, $250

and plenty of colors

Bag it!

4 May

I need a bag, an everyday carry where I can store

  • my external batteries for the iphone,
  • my iPad,
  • my Beats headphones,
  • my kleankanteen bottle,
  • some dry fruits and nuts, and jerky,
  • some cables,
  • a jacket (it’s cold with AC).

Also, it needs to be rugged to survive me, the sunny weather in Florida, the cold winter in NY and small enough to classify as a “handbag” when I fly away.
I want it to be technical with an easy access to my stuff, to be versatile and comfortable when  I’m walking in the metro or longboarding downtown. Also I want to be able to customise it depending on what I’m up to (work day, travel day, lazy day…).

Many brands and models are out there, so it’s not an easy choice.

I like the Victorinox bags, the North Face ones, the Goruck, … and after lots of hesitations, I picked the Fast Pack lightspeed by Triple Aught Design… Let’s call it simply the new generation of everyday carry.

I ordered it on Triple Aught Design website and waited patiently to get it home.

It’s designed for military uses and missions, nothing different than our daily life … Maybe less dangerous though …

More news about my brand new backpack after some tests …
